Representative Lindsey Prather is a teacher, public servant, and community leader who proudly calls Candler home. Lindsey first ran for office and won in 2022. In 2024, she secured a narrow victory in House District 115, and is now running for reelection to defend the seat and continue serving Buncombe County. Since taking office, she has been a strong advocate for working families, protecting public schools, and defending reproductive freedom. She has also worked across the aisle with both Democrats and Republicans to deliver results for her constituents.
Lindsey is a lifelong product of North Carolina public schools and has lived in Buncombe County for over 16 years. She taught in Buncombe County Schools before serving as Assistant Director of Admission at University of North Carolina Asheville, where she works to support transfer, military, and veteran students.
WHY THIS RACE
In 2024, Democrats ended the Republican supermajority in the North Carolina House, protecting Democratic Governor Josh Stein’s veto power. Lindsey Prather won this seat the same year by a narrow margin, reflecting the district’s competitive nature and shifting political dynamics. In 2026, North Carolina is considered one of the South’s most closely watched battleground states. Defending this seat is critical to preserving the governor’s veto power and protecting public education, reproductive freedom, and fair representation.
WHY NORTH CAROLINA
North Carolina will be a defining battleground in the 2026 midterms, with control of the legislature and an open U.S. Senate seat on the line. Former Democratic Governor Roy Cooper is running for the U.S. Senate seat, bringing name recognition and attention to the top of the ticket. In 2024, Democrats ended the Republican supermajority in the House while holding the line in the Senate, preserving Democratic Governor Josh Stein’s ability to veto Republican attacks on reproductive rights, public schools, and voting access. Flipping vulnerable districts and defending key incumbents is the only way to keep Democrats strong enough to stop the GOP’s extreme agenda.
