Elizabeth Guzman represented Virginia’s 31st District for six years, serving parts of Prince William and Fauquier Counties. A social worker and public administrator, she was the first Latina immigrant elected to the General Assembly.
Arriving in the U.S. as a young single mother with just $300, Elizabeth worked three minimum-wage jobs to afford a one-bedroom apartment and put herself through college, later earning two master’s degrees. She has spent her career in local government and human services, protecting children from neglect and abuse.
In the legislature, she held leadership roles on the Education and Social Services Committees. A second-generation union member, she championed workers' rights, led the fight for paid sick leave, and helped lift Virginia’s ban on public sector collective bargaining. Known for bridging the rural-urban divide, she earned respect from colleagues on both sides of the aisle.
WHY THIS RACE
Electing Elizabeth Guzman to the 22nd District is crucial for expanding the Democratic majority in Virginia's House of Delegates. As the first Latina immigrant to serve in the General Assembly, she has a proven track record of championing progressive policies, and was recognized as one of the most effective legislators by numerous organizations. Now, we are working to send her back to Richmond so her leadership can ensure continued progress on issues vital to Virginians.
WHY VIRGINIA
Democrats must defend our House majority to keep Virginia a firewall against right-wing extremism. With momentum on our side, we can win key swing districts and build power for 2026. We also have a major opportunity to take back the Governor’s office and statewide seats, securing Virginia’s future as a stronghold for democracy.
