Erika Almirón for Philadelphia City Council At-Large

Second Generation is proud to support Erika Almirón for Philadelphia City Council At-Large. Erika Almirón is the daughter of Paraguayan immigrants. She has spent the last 20 years organizing women, young people, poor folks and immigrants to fight for human rights.

For close to 10 years Erika served as the Executive Director of Juntos. Her work focused on a commitment to redefining what a successful sanctuary city looks like, challenging harmful and unfair ICE policies and practices and eliminating the over policing of migrants and people of color. Erika’s leadership resulted in Philadelphia ending its cooperation with ICE, making Philadelphia a national model for Sanctuary Cities.

Erika has worked to build campaigns with various communities to address injustices, from the campaign to end prison gerrymandering in Pennsylvania to pushing for more resources to engage Latinx voters in and around Philadelphia. All of these experiences have given Erika a unique perspective on the issues that Philly faces and have prepared her to tackle the systemic barriers that hinder progress for many families.

"Most immigrant families come to the US and struggle to survive. As the child of immigrants access to funds becomes harder to push a campaign forward and political connections are limited, you only have your work to speak for your reputation. Helping to fund and support candidates like myself will help to bring leaders with my personal and professional experience into positions that can make substantial change for our families. That's why I am so honored to be supported by Second Generation in this election. In accepting this endorsement, I renew my pledge to continue fighting for immigrants, people of color, and poor people as Philadelphia’s next At-Large member of City Council." —Erika Almirón
