Second Generation - Nina Ahmad for Philadelphia City Council At-Large

Second Generation is proud to support Nina Ahmad for Philadelphia City Council At-Large.

Ahmad, who lives in Mt. Airy, came to the United States from Bangladesh at the age of 21. A scientist and staunch advocate of human rights, Ahmad has served as Deputy Mayor of Public Engagement under Mayor Jim Kenney; on the Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders under President Obama; and as President of the Philadelphia chapter of the National Organization of Women.

Ahmad was the runner-up in the competitive five-way Democratic primary election for Lieutenant Governor in 2018, finishing ahead of the incumbent as well as all other candidates from Southeastern Pennsylvania. In 2020, Nina ran for Pennsylvania Auditor General and was the first woman of color in Pennsylvania history to win the Democratic nomination for statewide executive office.

Now Nina is running for City Council At-Large to make Philadelphia a healthier, stronger city. From crime and gun violence to housing and the environment, Nina believes that if we make Philadelphia a healthier city, we can make it a stronger, safer city. As a biomedical scientist, Nina spent her life taking on these kinds of challenges and she's used science and data to find new solutions to old problems.
