On Monday, Sept. 21, Khizr Khan formally joined Second Generation in endorsing two trailblazing South Asian Americans running for state office in Pennsylvania: Nina Ahmad for Pennsylvania Auditor General and Nikil Saval for Pennsylvania State Senate, 1st District!

Khizr Khan is a Pakistani-American immigrant, Gold Star Parent, and Founder of Constitution Literacy Project. He made headlines in 2016 when he offered his pocket-copy of the Constitution to candidate Trump and in 2017 condemning President Trump’s failure to address the racist attacks in his hometown of Charlottesville, VA. This year, Mr. Khan returned to the DNC for a memorable roll call vote to nominate Joe Biden on behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia. 

Dr. Nina Ahmad came to the United States from Bangladesh at the age of 21. A scientist and staunch advocate of human rights, Ahmad is fresh off of a strong primary victory over five opponents. She has served as Deputy Mayor of Public Engagement under Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney; on the Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders under President Obama; and as President of the Philadelphia chapter of the National Organization of Women.

Nikil Saval is the son of immigrants from Bangalore, India. An acclaimed author and thought leader on issues ranging from architecture to labor and employment, Saval won a historic and decisive primary victory against a three-term incumbent senator. Saval has successfully built diverse coalitions to advance progressive candidates and issues across Pennsylvania, and was the first Asian American in Philadelphia history to be elected as a Democratic ward leader.
