On January 7, the Eaton Fire—the second most destructive in California’s history—ravaged the Altadena and Pasadena community.
The Pasadena Community Job Center, operated by the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), responded immediately. Under the leadership of immigrant workers, the community rallied together to support those affected, clearing more than 3,000 tons of debris from city streets and providing vital relief including food, water, clothing, and other supplies to tens of thousands.
But our work is far from over—and lives are on the line. As the dust begins to settle, immigrant day laborers—often called “second responders”—will be the ones stepping in to do the most grueling, dangerous jobs: hauling debris, removing toxic waste, rebuilding homes. They do it with almost no protective equipment, risking deadly exposure to hazardous materials. Without immediate action, these workers will pay for recovery with their health—or their lives. We must act now to protect those who are risking everything to rebuild our communities.
That is why we urgently need your help. We are assembling and distributing 10,000 PPE kits to protect those on the front lines of cleanup and rebuilding efforts. Each kit costs $200 to assemble and includes a backpack, hard hat, respirator and cartridges, masks, goggles, coveralls, gloves and other equipment to help safeguard the health of “second responders.”
Your donation will directly support the workers who are putting their health and safety on the line to restore our communities.
