I'm excited to be running as the Democratic Nominee for the New York State Assembly in District 66!

I am a civil rights lawyer, NYU law professor, community leader, and life-long Manhattanite, who combines the expertise of an academic with the practical experience of a civil rights attorney and the grounding of a community organizer.

Until launching my campaign, I was the Legal Director of the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project, protecting New Yorkers' civil rights through impact litigation (e.g. suing the city for requiring arrestees to remove religious head coverings in booking photos) and legislative advocacy (e.g. requiring NYPD to disclose the surveillance technologies they use).

I still teach a State Legislative Externship at NYU Law, pairing 10 law students with 10 state legislators to help them write bills, and working hands-on with 20 bills per year to get them drafted and introduced. I am also the founding Executive Director of NYU's State Government Initiative, with the mission of using university resources to help our state government better serve the people.

Over the past year, in response to federal overreach and abuse, I have been organizing the neighborhood to go door-to-door to help businesses prepare for potential ICE raids. I have previously filed lawsuits on behalf of the community (e.g. to save Beth Israel Hospital). And I have spent years working in the neighborhood with the Village Independent Democrats.
