Samantha Victoria Montano

Sam Montaño for State Rep Suffolk 15

My name is Sam Montaño (she/they) and I am running to be your next State Representative. I have worked for most of the last decade in Jamaica Plain, Mission Hill and Roxbury as a community organizer focused on issues of affordable housing, equity, and climate change, and now it is time to bring that experience to Beacon Hill.

Covid has put a spotlight on the enormous equity gaps in our society in so many areas, especially around public health, mental health, education and housing. We are on the edge of great opportunity as we prepare to distribute billions in ARPA funds. We have the chance to rectify wrongs of the past and present by distributing the funds in a way that acknowledges and repairs racial inequities and its intersections. This moment calls on us to act with urgency while staying rooted in equity, and I have the lived and learned experience to serve our community as we build a just future.
