No Somerville Tax Dollars for Genocide, Apartheid, or Occupation!

This moment calls for action.

For two years, we have witnessed a genocide unfold in Gaza, perpetrated by Israel, funded by the United States, and carried out by companies who profit from violence against Palestinians. This violence takes several forms:

  • Genocide: Over 60,000 Palestinians -- more than 20,000 of them children -- have been killed with weapons built by Lockheed Martin and similar companies. They are killed while waiting for food aid, while praying in their tents, recovering in hospitals.
  • Apartheid: Throughout Israel and Palestine, there is a system of apartheid with separate roads, legal systems, basic rights that is enforced using technology supplied by HP.
  • Occupation: In the West Bank, Caterpillar bulldozers destroy Palestinian villages in service of the occupation, making way for illegal Israeli settlements.

What can we do here in Somerville?

We can and must pressure our city officials to boycott and divest from companies such as Lockheed Martin, Caterpillar and HP. We cannot abide our tax dollars going to businesses that profit from these human rights violations that are so antithetical to Somerville’s values.

Somerville has shown unmistakable support for Palestine during this campaign and over 10,000 registered Somerville voters have signed to put the following question on the ballot:

“Shall the Mayor of Somerville and all Somerville elected leaders be instructed to end all current city business and prohibit future city investments and contracts with companies as long as such companies engage in business that sustains Israel’s apartheid, genocide, and illegal occupation of Palestine?”

How can you help?

We need your support now to get the word out about this campaign, to turn out the vote, and make sure that everyone in Somerville knows that, this November, solidarity with Palestine is on the ballot.

We will use these funds to make yard signs, buttons, fliers, stickers and other materials that help us reach every voter.

Thank you for your support!
