After years of serving on the Manassas City Council, Councilwoman Sonia Vásquez Luna announced her candidacy for the Virginia House of Delegates District 20, which comprises Manassas City, Manassas Park, and parts of Prince William County. This comes after Delegate Maldonado announced she will be resigning from office after serving our community for 5 years.
"Thank you to Delegate Michelle Maldonado for her leadership, years of friendship, and support to our community. Delegate Maldonado has been a partner with our city to ensure that our schools, housing, transportation, and city services all connect," said Councilwoman Sonia Vásquez Luna.
"I am proud to announce my candidacy for Delegate for House District 20. As a mother of children in Manassas City Public Schools, a union leader, and an immigrant, I have seen what is possible when we open doors and ensure others have a fair shot at their own American Dream. As your Delegate, I will focus on protecting opportunities for families to thrive by lowering costs, strengthening public safety, and ensuring working families can build a future here."
Sonia Vásquez Luna came to the United States from El Salvador in 2001. While working to support her mother and sisters, she attended English classes at night, determined to build a better future through hard work and perseverance.
As the first Latina elected to the Manassas City Council, Vasquez Luna made history. She hopes to count on your support as she aims to fund her grassroots campaign to win House of Delegates District 20.
