St. Louis Queer+ Support Helpline

Donate to Help SQSH Thrive Alongside Queer Communities Across MO & IL!

We need your help to sustain SQSH’s lifesaving services amidst the pandemic, as we make plans to offer LGBTQIA-affirming peer support across Missouri and Illinois!

Our volunteers are struggling to stay afloat after being hard-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our leadership strains to manage our regular operations amidst multiple jobs, caretaking responsibilities, and health ailments. The decline in our volunteers' stability and wellbeing severely impacts our work as a volunteer-run, grassroots organization.

Our LGBTQIA+ family across the Midwest faces deepening isolation and widening health disparities. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, queer and trans folx face higher risk of being quarantined in unsafe situations or evicted from safe spaces. Yet outside of St. Louis and Kansas City, most areas across Missouri and Illinois lack any LGBTQIA-centered services. Free, confidential, LGBTQIA-affirming peer support across Missouri and Illinois is more essential now than ever before.

To meet the growing need, SQSH aims to expand our services across Missouri and Illinois to make free, confidential, identity-affirming emotional support and resource referrals available across both states. But we need funds to retain current volunteers, train new peer counselors, and deepen our community outreach efforts.

Here’s where your money would go:

$40: Funds one month of community outreach efforts, allowing SQSH to invest in community events, publicity materials, and awareness campaigns to help us reach rural, BIPOC, low-income, and immigrant LGBTQIA+ communities across Missouri and Illinois.

$50: Funds one month of phone bills, allowing SQSH callers to access free, confidential Helpline service.

$75: Funds one month of insurance, allowing SQSH volunteers to take calls safely & securely.

$100: Funds one SQSH volunteer’s monthly stipend, allowing LGBTQIA+ community members to volunteer their time and energy sustainably.

$125: Funds one month of rent, allowing SQSH volunteers to take calls in a private, confidential office space.

$150: Funds one SQSH volunteer’s training fees, allowing LGBTQIA+ community members to learn peer counseling skills to support others.

SQSH is a community-based organization focused on creating opportunities and spaces for St. Louis LGBTQIA+ individuals to lead fulfilling lives. Our mission is to serve and strengthen the St. Louis LGBTQIA+ community—by providing an empathetic listening ear, by connecting callers safely and reliably to LGBTQIA-affirming resources, and by increasing the visibility of LGBTQIA+ needs and resources in the St. Louis region.
