Right now, there's a cap on how much the very rich are expected to pay into the Social Security system. To expand Social Security and provide fair, livable benefits to all Americans, it's time to scrap the cap!
Expanding Social Security benefits would strengthen our nation's economy and increase economic security for seniors, people with disabilities, and others. Social Security was enacted to provide basic economic security, but today's benefits are too low.
Our organization, Social Security Works, has been fighting for years to defend and expand Social Security. Recently, SSW's president, Nancy Altman, was invited to testify in the Senate by Senator Bernie Sanders.
Nancy told the Senate that the projected 2032 Social Security shortfall is the result of Trump administration policies, that the American people overwhelmingly reject cuts and want expanded benefits—and that Congress must take action to scrap the cap and make millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share into the Social Security system.

There are two pieces of legislation that Congress could pass right away: Senator Bernie Sanders's Social Security Expansion Act in the Senate and Representative John Larson's Social Security 2100 Act in the House. We need Congress to do the right thing!
