Earlier this month, House Republicans held a hearing focused on Social Security and Medicare. They didn't want to draw attention to what they were doing, so they held it far from Washington, D.C.
This was a "field hearing," and it happened in Dallas, Texas. House Republicans brought in retired Senators Joe Manchin and Rob Portman, who were pushing a fast-track bill to cut our earned benefits.
Usually, when Congress holds a field hearing, there's testimony from members of the general public. But when a Social Security Works team member showed up with a few Texas seniors and people with disabilities, House Republicans scrambled for excuses not to let us in.
