Stacked is our movement and StackedPAC is the vehicle we’ll use to drive towards our mission. StackedPAC is a student-led political action committee that is devoted to expanding the political influence of the college student voting bloc. Over the years, the deck has been stacked against us and we’re now saying, “Let’s reshuffle the cards” towards a more equitable future for each of us. College students across the country have the power to influence state and federal elections in favor of a progressive student agenda. We plan to own that power.
StackedPAC’s focus is 1) student voter registration, 2) mobilization to get them to the polls to elect officials that represent our interests, 3) advocating for issues that affect us deeply by crafting and driving policy and legislation to address them, and 4) advocating for paid internships for students to ensure we are compensated as we navigate high tuition costs and bear large amounts of student debt.
StackedPAC, through mobilization, engagement and issue advocacy, will recruit and build new leaders on campuses across the country who will engage more actively in the political process, run for office, become policy and subject area experts and be the change we seek.
StackedPAC has identified 18 battleground states and the colleges which will make a significant impact on electing Democrats in key local and statewide races. In addition to Senate and House races, we have our eyes on Governorships and state houses that will make the difference between saving our democracy and destroying it. We plan to focus on Virginia races in 2021 as we build campus representation in these 18 states with a goal of registering new college voters in key districts in each state.
This level of student engagement and mobilization comes at a significant cost. We must fund full-time national and some regional level staff, monthly student stipends for state level and campus leaders, campus voter registration drives, social and issue advocacy events that will continue to engage students, transportation for students to get to the polls, and other efforts. We must make investments in 18 states and support efforts of at least 10 campus leads/co-leads in a minimum of 10 campuses in each of those states. These are investments of significant proportions and will make a difference in the lives of these students and future generations, towards a more equitable future for all.
We believe we can counter voter suppression efforts by turning out in record numbers. We appreciate your support as we, together, strive to protect our democracy!
