State Slate: Iowa

The State Slate is an effort by the tech community to help excellent Democratic candidates in winnable state races nationwide. This page is for people who want to focus their donations on our ten candidates in Iowa.

We need to win just 5 seats in Iowa in 2020 to capture the Iowa state House. Each of our candidates on the State Slate is in a competitive race against a Republican incumbent, or running for an open seat.

These state candidates are not only running in their own right, but helping to turn out votes for the Biden/Harris ticket (whom the latest polls show to have a narrow statewide lead) and the highly competitive Senate race, where Democrat Theresa Greenfield is polling just ahead of incumbent Joni Ernst.

Our Iowa candidates run the gamut from schoolteachers, to nurses, to farmers, to community and tribal leaders. The districts they are fighting for include the deintustrialized cities of Fort Dodge and Muscatine, the heavily immigrant meatpacking town of Storm Lake (where Sara Huddleston would become the first Latina elected to the state house in Iowa), and the collar counties around Des Moines.

Iowa has been hit hard by Trump's tariffs, his anti-renewable energy policy, and natural disasters that have left the state hurting. The disaster of Medicaid privatization has soured Iowans on the prospect of continued one-party rule by Republicans.

With Democratic turnout already breaking records in the early vote, we are well-placed to win a victory in this traditionally moderate state all the way to the top of the ticket. But we have to make sure good state candidates have the budget they need to win!

Donation limits: there are no limits on individual campaign contributions to candidates in Iowa.
