When I decided to run for the U.S. House of Representatives, many people said it wasn’t my turn.
Or that voters weren’t ready. But I made the decision to push forward – and with the help of our grassroots supporters at the time, I became Wisconsin’s first female member of Congress and America’s first openly-gay non-incumbent elected to Congress.
