About Steve

I was raised by a single mother. Our family relied heavily on public assistance for housing and food during that time. I went on to become the first in the family to finish college where I studied Biology, while my brother, Mike, proudly serves the country as a United States Marine.

After college, I moved in with my wife to be and spent a year as a stay at home father. I remained passionate about teaching and science so I enrolled in at James Madison University and worked closely with local poultry growers to reduce the impact of poultry litter on the local land and streams. I transitioned to a Ph.D. program at Virginia Tech where I study the role of soil biology on environmental processes.

I never saw myself as a politician. I still don't. I'm a scientist, a teacher, and a citizen, and most of all a parent. But what I've come to see is that if we want our government to represent scientists, teachers, farmers, construction workers, then some plain everyday people like us, then some scientists, teachers, farmers, and construction workers are going to have to step up to the plate and run for office.

Revitalizing Appalachia

I want to close the skills gap in Virginia. We can do this by making community college and technical school more affordable, or even free.

I want Richmond to start paying its fair share to school districts in the valley. Our teachers need the resources necessary to provide our children with a quality education.

I want to get large corporations out of Virginia's elections. Our legislatures should be beholden to our voters, not big donors.

Please, join me on my journey to Revitalize Appalachia by supporting educators and laborers and make a contribution today.
