Our communities are being inundated with painful stories and images of Black people targeted, harassed, arrested, and killed by police and racist vigilantes. As Black people all across the country grapple with the aftermath of an unprecedented global pandemic, somehow Black people also have to figure how to stay alive while jogging, buying groceries, and yes -- even while sleeping.
Color Of Change was founded in moments just like this one. As Black communities reeled in grief as all levels of government failed to protect Black people in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, we recognized that not enough of the people and institutions with power over our lives had any fear of disappointing Black people. For the last 15 years, we've focused on building that power.
We have challenged injustice and advanced solutions for racial justice that can transform our world. We have run campaigns that not only hold police accountable but also change the rules and structures that allow them to escape any consequences.
Our team is leading campaigns to take on the institution of policing head-on. And that means getting to the root of the problem. If we do not take steps to deter elected officials from supporting, investing, and protecting an unaccountable police force then we risk losing countless Black lives.
But we need your support. History teaches us that people-powered movements are critical to transforming our communities. Without people who are uncompromised committing resources to our efforts, it becomes almost impossible to push for the progressive solutions that will make a difference.
