Steven Holden for Congress

I am Steven Holden, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, a dedicated advocate, and someone who believes in the power of listening.

I grew up on my grandparents’ dairy farm in rural Oklahoma, where I learned the values of hard work, resilience, and the importance of community.

These lessons guided me through my 20 years of service in the U.S. Army, where I served in Iraq and Afghanistan, contributed to critical missions such as serving on the behind-the-scenes efforts that led to the capture of Saddam Hussein, and worked to ensure Afghan interpreters received the aid they needed.

After my military service, I earned my MBA and MPA from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School. For the past seven years, I’ve called Upstate New York home, where I’ve focused on supporting small businesses, strengthening local economies, and ensuring veterans receive the benefits they deserve.

As an Army Certified Defense Financial Manager and a member of Future Farmers of America and 4H, I also bring expertise in agricultural economics. My roots in rural America and my career experiences have prepared me to understand and tackle the challenges facing NY-21, bring them to Washington, and return with results.

Why I’m Exploring This Campaign

I believe the district deserves representation that listens and takes action. For too long, middle-class families, small businesses, and rural communities here have been overlooked. I want to change that.

I know the challenges our communities face—families struggling to make ends meet, local businesses dealing with supply chain issues, and feeling left behind by Washington. My goal is to advocate for a rural and small-business-driven economy that keeps money in the district by producing and consuming locally, retaining labor, and fostering economic self-sufficiency.

I’m also deeply concerned about the impact of tariffs on border counties, like the ones proposed by Trump, which will hurt many NY-21 residents.

This is why I’m starting my campaign with a listening tour—to meet with you, hear your concerns, and understand how I can best serve you.

Finally, as someone who has spent years advocating for access to capital and opportunities for small businesses, I understand the vital role they play in the fabric of our communities. Whether it’s ensuring local businesses can thrive or protecting families from economic uncertainty, I’m committed to making a real difference for NY-21.
