Progressive Leader Marie Corfield

In September 2010, Marie Corfield's life changed forever.

Marie challenged Governor Christie at a town hall meeting about his drastic cuts to public education, and his derisive rhetoric about teachers. In response, Governor Christie posted the exchange on his YouTube channel. Rather than being intimidated, Marie Corfield kept fighting for her beliefs

Last year, Marie ran for State Assembly in the 16th district against an entrenched Republican incumbent, and ran one of the closest races in the state, coming within about 3% of beating him. Two days after the election he passed away. There is a special election this year and she's running again -- and she's one of the top-targeted Democratic state legislative challenges in the country.
