I just boarded a plane with my colleagues. We’re leaving the state because Texas Republicans have left us no choice. By doing so, we are denying them the quorum needed to pass Donald Trump’s redistricting power grab.
Republicans know they can’t win on the strength of their ideas, so they’re resorting to gerrymandering to hold onto power. That is not democracy.
This is not a decision I make lightly. But when I took office, I swore an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of this State—to the best of my ability. I intend to honor that oath.
Can I count on you to stand with me?
