We wanna feel like we've done everything we could to keep fascism out of power come November 2024, right? Well money given now to grassroots organizations like SURJ can help the folks on the ground prepare for the months ahead and help us do just that.
I’m personally working to raise $1000 for Showing up for Racial Justice (SURJ) whose work has helped me feel purposeful, hopeful, and powerful as we face this year’s election. SURJ’s Spring Grassroots Fundraising Drive will help hire organizers and support voter contact work in key battleground states.
2024 presents a series of interconnected political struggles that we cannot afford to lose. We have to organize to defeat Trump and authoritarianism, preserve democracy, bring people into justice movements for the long haul, AND advance reproductive justice, climate justice, and all liberation movements. It’s no small ask!
That’s why I love SURJ’s approach. They are the largest organization in the country that explicitly organizes white communities to the side of racial, gender, and economic justice, *particularly* across the South and Appalachia, which the Democratic party often underfunds and thus cedes to the right! As their director Erin Heaney says, "When we address race in white communities, the right loses their most powerful tool. They can no longer use race as the wedge to divide people who actually have far more in common than not." More of this, please!
SURJ supports 175 chapters that mobilize around local campaigns to help folks find meaning and community in our shared interests. I’ve felt empowered and hopeful being part of their national and local campaigns, and I’d love to have you in this work with us!
