Mason's 2025 SURJ Fundraiser

Mason's 2025 SURJ Fundraiser

Thank you so much for considering a donation to SURJ during this grassroots fundraising sprint. Whether I've talked your ear off about what SURJ is up to this year, or you're just hearing about it now, I'm so honored you've decided to support our work.

I'm raising money to be with SURJ for the long haul. That's why my goals are based on bringing SURJ $100 a month, whether for a year, two, or maybe even three. If you can consider making a monthly contribution. Its how I give when I want an organization to know they can count on me, not just today, but tomorrow, next month, and next year too.

Why give to SURJ?

Lets be honest, we're inches away from falling all the way off the right wing extremism cliff, and our community is not in shape to push us back away from that ledge. If you're like me, you probably have family that refuses to recognize the reality of the rise of authoritarianism in this country. If you're like me, you probably have friends that recognize the reality, but have no idea what to do about it.

SURJ has been preparing for this moment since 2008, when many decided that the fight against white nationalist violence and right wing extremeism was all but won. Of course, 2008 brought with it its own rise in racist backlash, right wing political movements, and conspiracy theory. While many on the political left of center are just now beginning to discuss the 'problem of white people', SURJ has developed a strategy we think can not just 'defeat' white people, but actually bring white people into the movement, to be part of the solution.

That strategy is to:

1) continue to build our National Organizing efforts that bring white people looking for a progressive and anti-racist political home into action with us, not only organizing those people into movement, but also turning that into real victories, like blocking the Kentucky anti-abortion amendment 2.

2) expand our efforts in local grassroots community organizing in places where the Democratic Party and many of our progressive allies have given up on, including Appalachia and the South. While we may not win a statewide election in a state like Tennessee, there are people there, including members of my family, that deserve to have a community that is able to fight for the things that everyone deserves, like safe and affordable housing.

We believe that we can prove to people in these places, even people who have been won over by right wing extremist rhetoric in the past, that winning real positive change by fighting with us, is better than the scraps and possible rhetorical victories of fighting against us.

Thank you again for joining me and SURJ for this Grassroots Fundraising sprint ending June 6th. Please consider making a meaningful donation today.
