Kim Townsend is a public servant, community leader, and 31-year advocate for the people of Madison County and the city of Anderson, running for the Indiana State House in District 36. As CEO of the Anderson Housing Authority since 2018, she inherited a troubled agency with a failing HUD designation and turned it around completely, securing over a million dollars in grants and restoring it as a model for the region.
A breast cancer survivor, Kim understands firsthand the importance of accessible health care, strong community support systems, and the resilience it takes to fight for what matters. She is running for the State House because she has spent 31 years showing up for her community and believes it is time to take Anderson’s and Madison County’s needs to the State House.
WHY THIS RACE
Kim Townsend has spent 31 years delivering for Anderson and Madison County, and now she’s ready to take that record to Indianapolis. HD-36 is a pickup opportunity Democrats need as part of their four-seat path to breaking the Republican supermajority in the Indiana House. She knows how to fight for resources, navigate institutions, and get results for communities that have been left behind.
WHY INDIANA IS IMPORTANT
Republicans currently hold a supermajority in the Indiana House, giving them unchecked power to pass their most extreme priorities. But by flipping just four seats, Democrats could break that supermajority in the House—forcing real negotiation, creating genuine accountability, and putting a hard stop on legislation that leaves the state behind on reproductive rights, public education, and affordable health care.
