States Win for Sara Agerton (PA HD 88)

Sara Agerton is a social worker, local elected official, and community advocate running to flip Pennsylvania House District 88. For more than two decades, Sara has worked in health care, foster care, behavioral health, and hospice services, helping vulnerable families navigate some of life’s most difficult challenges. She currently serves on the Mechanicsburg Borough Council, where she has worked on sustainability initiatives, community development, and local quality-of-life issues. Sara is running to bring her experience as a social worker and local leader to Harrisburg to fight for working families across Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.

WHY THIS RACE

Democrats currently hold a one-seat majority in the Pennsylvania House. Flipping House District 88 represents one of Democrats’ strongest opportunities to expand their narrow majority. Sara has run for this seat twice before, so she has name recognition, community relationships, and campaign infrastructure built through years of organizing and voter outreach across the district. Control of the House will likely come down to a handful of competitive races, and Sara's established presence and proven commitment to the community positions her well to flip this seat and strengthen Democrats’ ability to advance priorities like affordable health care, strong public schools, and economic opportunity for working families.

WHY PENNSYLVANIA

Pennsylvania is a critical battleground state because it is one of only three states in the country with a divided legislature, making control of state government highly competitive and consequential. The stakes are particularly high in a year when Governor Josh Shapiro is also on the ballot and there is a potential pathway for Democrats to make broader gains across the state. With several recent special elections highlighting how closely contested control of the state has been, Pennsylvania remains a central focus for efforts to shape the state’s political balance and policy direction in the years ahead.
