Brittany Bloam is a working mom, attorney, and lifelong advocate for strong communities. She is a first-time candidate running to represent the 45th district in Pennsylvania’s State House of Representatives. Brittany was born and raised in a small Pennsylvania town, and believes the government should actively support opportunity, fairness, and dignity for every family.
Growing up in a working-class union family, Brittany learned the importance of hard work, responsibility, and community. She put herself through Gettysburg College and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law through scholarships, student loans, and part-time jobs—building a legal career centered on problem-solving and helping people navigate complex systems. Her professional experience reflects a deep respect for the rule of law, public institutions, and the tangible effects of policy decisions.
As a mother raising her daughters in the district, Brittany sees firsthand what families need to thrive: safe neighborhoods, strong schools, affordable childcare, and good job opportunities. Her campaign emphasizes economic stability, accessible public education, workers’ rights, reproductive freedom, and protecting western PA families from the chaos coming from Washington.
WHY THIS RACE
Brittany will have a primary on May 19th that will determine the direction of Democratic leadership in House District 45. As a key Democratic-held seat in Western Pennsylvania, the nominee must be positioned to both win the general election and accurately represent the values of the district.
States Win has endorsed Brittany in this primary because it is essential to ensure the nominee reflects core Democratic values around protecting fundamental rights and supporting working families. Brittany brings a strong background in community-focused leadership, with a clear focus on expanding health care access and addressing the rising cost of living. In contrast, Pat Catena has taken positions—particularly on reproductive rights—that are out of step with today’s Democratic coalition. At a time when abortion access is under sustained threat, nominating a candidate who is not aligned on this issue could weaken the party’s ability to clearly and effectively advocate and legislate for important priorities with Democrats’ current one-seat majority.
WHY PENNSYLVANIA
Pennsylvania is a critical battleground state because it is one of only three states in the country with a divided legislature, making control of state government highly competitive and consequential. The stakes are particularly high in a year when Governor Josh Shapiro is also on the ballot and there is a potential pathway for Democrats to make broader gains across the state. With several recent special elections highlighting how closely contested control of the state has been, Pennsylvania remains a central focus for efforts to shape the state’s political balance and policy direction in the years ahead.
