Despite Senator Collins’ claims of moderation and expressions of “concern”, she has been a reliable vote for Mitch McConnell whenever it really matters. We would do well to ask ourselves, where was Senator Collins’ spirit of “protest” when she:
- voted with her party for the Trump tax cuts that dug the deficit event deeper while giving tax breaks to her wealthy friends?
- sold out American women by voting to confirm the Supreme Court nominations of Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh?
- voted against the Inflation Reduction Act’s historic investments to tackle climate change, funded by closing tax loopholes exploited by large corporations, and cracking down on wealthy people who cheat on their taxes, citing “deficit concerns”?
