44% of all housing units (over 7000 homes!) in South Lake Tahoe are vacant while locals struggle to find housing and business can't find employees.
What is a Vacancy Tax?
A vacancy tax shifts incentives from empty houses to housing for locals. Modeled on Berkeley's successful Measure M, a vacancy tax would add an estimated 1,400 housing units, while generating $34M per year for housing, road repair and transit in South Lake Tahoe.
