The Nation recently ran a story by John Nichols entitled “The Stakes Have Never Been Higher in an Off-Year Election” where he argues that elections like ours will deliver a real-time assessment on our country’s direction. He writes,

"Never has that assessment seemed more freighted with consequence than now, when President Trump has packed his administration with extremists who are bent on dismantling basic services; sent shock waves through the economy with his trade wars; stomped on civil liberties; and generally upended governance in ways that threaten the very future of American democracy."
