The Andrew Goodman Foundation’s mission is “to make young voices and votes a powerful force in democracy.” We build on the important legacy of Andrew Goodman, James Chaney and Michael Schwerner, who were young civil rights volunteers murdered by the KKK in Mississippi in during Freedom Summer 1964 when they were attempting to register African Americans to vote. Their martyrdom help catalyze a movement that led to the Voting Rights Act of 1965. President Barack Obama awarded them the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2014.
Our programs reach about 1Million college students through Vote Everywhere, Puffin Democracy Fellows and the annual National Civic Leadership Training Summit. Our highly skilled and committed staff coach, train, equip and organize amazing student leader activists to counter voter suppression, remove barriers to voting, register youth to vote, and support GOTV efforts and social justice initiatives. They work to transform their campus climates to encourage youth political activism.
We use innovative digital and legal
strategies to support our student leaders’ work and increase their impact.
We operate in 25 states and
Washington, DC, with almost 60 college or university partners, and with permanent staff on the ground including in Texas and Tennessee. By 2020 we will reach 2 Million students and support over 250 Student Leaders and an alumni
association of hundreds of civically engaged, energized and trained activists and leaders.
We depend on your donations to make our work possible. Your contribution today will directly support our organizing and educational work to amplify student voices and build an energized youth electorate. Thank you for supporting democracy and youth leadership!
