The National Council is a network of formerly and currently incarcerated women and girls committed to reimagining communities.
Our thousands of members are intimately familiar with the impact of current criminal justice policies, the realities of incarceration and the hurdles women face after returning home.
As the coronavirus spreads throughout the country, we are acutely aware that current and formerly incarcerated women and girls are going to be on the front lines in terms of their physical and economic vulnerability. According to the Prison Policy Initiative, formerly incarcerated women experience much higher rates of unemployment (~6x U.S. general population) and homelessness (~12x U.S. general population) compared both to people who have never been incarcerated and to formerly incarcerated men.
We need your help to provide emergency financial assistance to our members and their families.
