During the first half of the 2022-2023 school year alone, 1,477 book bans affected 874 unique titles. While Florida and Texas have received significant media coverage due to the intensity of the issue there, book bans are a nationwide problem with local governments and schools in 37 states, including California, Michigan, and New York implementing them.
Organizations like the right-wing funded and run Moms for Liberty are the driving force behind these bans.
In response to this dire situation, Illinois is leading the fight -- passing a first in the nation bill to ban book bans and ensure the fundamental right of everyone to read and access information freely. Now, Governors across the nation must follow suit.
