President Biden and Congress have proposed the Junk Fees Prevention Act, which aims to limit these extra fees and surcharges and bring more transparency to the industries that impose them.
The need for legislation was highlighted last November when Taylor Swift's Eras Tour tickets went on presale through Live Nation Entertainment Inc.'s Ticketmaster. Fans who attempted to purchase tickets encountered long wait times and technical glitches, and many reported being hit with unexpected fees at the end of the checkout process.
This isn’t an isolated incident either. In all parts of the economy, junk fees are continuing to pile up and something has to be done about the clear abuse of corporate power.
