Fund the Fight to Stop House Republicans’ Plan to Defund the IRS and Protect Wealthy and Corporate Tax Cheats Now!

The first priority for House Republicans was to push forward with a dangerous plan to cripple the IRS's ability to enforce our tax laws. Their goal? Defund the IRS and protect wealthy and corporate tax cheats at the expense of middle-class Americans.

The bill cutting $80 billion in new IRS funding allocated in the Inflation Reduction Act passed the House in a party line vote. Every Democrat voted against it and Republicans gave themselves a standing ovation upon passage.

This specific bill doesn’t have a chance in the U.S. Senate, but it’s the beginning of what will be a two year assault on IRS funding by House Republicans that could lead to death by a thousand cuts for a lot, possibly all, of this funding over time.

Republicans will stop at nothing to protect ultra-wealthy criminal tax cheats, especially when doing it will reduce the revenue needed to fund critical government programs like Medicaid, school lunches, and environmental protections.

That’s why we need to be clear in sending a message to the Senate.
