Right now, women’s fundamental right to sovereignty over their own bodies is under renewed attack. The abortion pill Mifepristone -- a safe, effective medication approved by the FDA for 25 years -- is being targeted by political appointees who want to strip women of their freedom to make their own reproductive choices.
This is not about science. It’s about control. Despite overwhelming medical consensus, critics are misrepresenting evidence and pushing junk science to justify restrictions. The Health Secretary has even ordered the FDA to review Mifepristone’s safety protocols based on a study condemned by experts as deeply flawed. These maneuvers are not debates over data -- they are direct assaults on women’s ability to decide what happens to their own bodies.
Globally, nearly 100 countries have approved Mifepristone, and the World Health Organization lists it as an essential medicine because it saves lives by ensuring safe abortions and managing miscarriages. Restricting it would not eliminate the need -- it would only drive women toward unsafe alternatives and strip them of their basic right to bodily autonomy.
This moment is urgent. The Senate has the power to stop political interference in science and protect women’s access to reproductive healthcare. Senators control FDA oversight, funding, and regulations. They must defend medical integrity and women’s freedom from government intrusion.
