The bombshells keep dropping on the heels of ProPublica’s reporting showing that for decades, Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas accepted gifts of luxury yacht trips, private jet travel, and resort vacations from billionaire Republican donor Harlan Crow.

First, it was revealed that Crow has some rather peculiar taste in his choice of personal hobbies; he’s a collector of Nazi memorabilia, including a signed copy of Mein Kampf and paintings by Hitler himself.

Then we learned that Crow secretly bought a handful of properties on a quiet street in Savannah, Georgia … directly from Clarence Thomas and his relatives.

Thomas’ mother still lives in one of those houses completely rent-free, and Thomas’ failure to disclose the real estate transaction is an apparent violation of federal law.

Clarence Thomas has arrogantly maintained all along that all of this is just fine, because Harlan Crow never had business before the Supreme Court. But last week we found out that was a lie as well; Thomas did not recuse himself in a 2005 case in which the Court ruled in favor of Trammell Crow Holdings in a $25 million copyright dispute.

If the Supreme Court hopes to retain any shred of legitimacy, this corruption needs to be thoroughly investigated.
