When Republicans introduced a bill to ban abortion nationwide, it's not just an attempt to legislate healthcare decisions, it's an outright attack on personal autonomy, a strike against our dignity, and a serious threat to the rights of individuals capable of becoming pregnant.
Banning abortions does not eliminate the need for them; it only drives people into unsafe and unregulated settings, putting lives at risk. History has shown that when abortions are illegal, women turn to dangerous alternatives that often result in severe health complications and even death.
If such a ban were to be enacted, it would not only infringe on personal freedoms for everyone, it would also disproportionately impact marginalized communities. Individuals would be forced to carry unwanted pregnancies to term, even though it could endanger their health, restrict their economic opportunities and impose insurmountable emotional burdens.
