Fund the fight demanding Secretary Buttigieg immediately use his existing power to make safety rules much stronger, so that rail workers and communities across America are protected now!

Railroad corporations have successfully undermined safety regulations governing trains transporting hazardous materials. This has led to devastating incidents such as the derailment and explosion in Ohio, which resulted in mass evacuations and significant environmental and public health consequences.

The weakening of safety regulations has been led by corporate lobbyists influencing government officials across different administrations.

During President Obama's tenure, chemical lobbyists secured exemptions from hazmat safety regulations for certain trains. Later, rail lobbyists convinced Trump administration officials to repeal rules requiring improved brakes on trains.

The Biden Administration and Transportation Secretary, Pete Buttigieg have the power to address this issue, but so far, they have not signaled that they will expand train safety regulations. Instead, they are actually considering moving forward with a rule being pushed by railroad corporations.

We cannot let that happen.
