TIRRC Votes

We are on the front lines of defending democracy. Will you join us?

The power of our democracy is that the people choose our leaders to represent us, not the other way around.

But in the face of the growing political power of Black and brown communities, the power-hungry politicians of Tennessee are doing everything they can to silence our voices and disenfranchise our communities.

Tennessee’s Republican supermajority is attempting to use a special session to redraw maps and lock in long-term political control. Following the division of communities like Nashville and now targeting Memphis, this reflects a broader pattern of map-drawing decisions that weaken community representation. Changing the rules mid-election is a political choice — not a requirement — and raises serious concerns about fairness and accountability in our electoral process. When politicians draw maps to choose their voters, instead of voters choosing their leaders, it undermines democratic representation. They see our power, and they're doing everything they can to stop it.

But we aren't backing down. We are registering voters and organizing our communities to turn out for every election and elect leaders that will build a state that works for all of us. For years our movements have been fighting to defend and build a truly multiracial and pluralistic democracy in our state–and we won’t give up now.
