I announced my campaign for D9 Supervisor because I knew San Francisco’s City Hall was broken, and since then I’ve also seen firsthand just how broken San Francisco’s politics are. Instead of working to restore San Francisco as a beacon of progressiveness, our San Francisco Democratic Party has veered off course, enabling and encouraging behavior that wouldn’t be allowed in an elementary school playground. They've fostered a culture of bullying and exclusion, driving people away from politics rather than engaging them. It's time to rebuild the San Francisco Democratic Party and bring in the adults.

That’s why I’m announcing today that in addition to running for D9 Supervisor, I will also be running for San Francisco Democratic Party Leadership, also known as the DCCC, in the coming March elections.

My first job was for a Democratic Congressman the year we passed Obamacare. As a Delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 2012, I took pride in renominating President Obama and voting to include marriage equality in the Democratic Party Platform. I then traveled the country to work on-the-ground of seven marriage equality campaigns and the frontlines of the fight for transgender rights in red states.

I want San Francisco to be a progressive beacon again. To do that we need a Democratic Party laser-focused on proving that Democrats can get the basics done right while solving the very real issues our city faces. We have to show not just with words but results why our policies will make people’s lives better. Adhering to ideology without demanding concrete, positive outcomes is a surefire route to irrelevance. San Francisco Democrats must aspire to something greater than that.

I hope you’ll join me in rebuilding the San Francisco Democratic Party so we can get beyond the petty fights and once again be the progressive beacon for the oppressed, the immigrants, for the marginalized, the misfits, the families, and those looking for a community that accepts them as they are. Together, we’ll create a San Francisco that is safe, strong, and vibrant for all of us.
