The Texas Republican platform says:
“Homosexuality is a chosen behavior that is contrary to the fundamental unchanging truths that has been ordained by God in the Bible… Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable alternative lifestyle, in public policy, nor should family be redefined to include homosexual couples.”
Republican lawmakers in Texas want to stamp out all LGBTQ rights. In the last session they introduced 24 anti-gay laws including:
- Adoption: A bill allowing adoption agencies the right to discriminate against LGBTQ families (Became Law)
- Bathrooms: A bill forcing transgender people to use the bathroom of their birth gender. (Passed Senate)
- Marriage: A bill allowing county clerks to decline signing marriage certificates for LGBT couples. (Passed Senate)
- Students: A bill forcing teachers to out LGBTQ students to their parents (died in committee) and a bill allowing the banning of transgender athletes from school competitions (passed Senate).
We know LGBTQ families deserve protection. That’s why we are running for State Legislature.
