"No Pride for some of us without liberation for all of us." - Marsha P. Johnson
Pride is a celebration of identity and culture, to advocate for equality, to foster community, and to remember and educate. While Pride festivals, parades, and marches have occurred in large cities across the world, here in the Upper Cumberland region, we have been celebrating Pride since May 2012. Upper Cumberland Pride celebrates what it means to be LGBTQ+ in rural America, and provides a space to come together to celebrate this community.
Our core mission is to strengthen equality and increase awareness around issues important to our community such as health, safety, and marriage equality. UCP celebrates the individuality and diversity of every person as we all strive for acceptance from parents, friends, and society at large. We do this by providing opportunities for positive visibility in and around the community; providing a safe environment that permits the expression of diverse perspectives; and education for the purpose of cultivating harmony within the community.
The money we raise for Upper Cumberland Pride, is money that is put back into Pride programming like our annual Upper Cumberland Pride Festival. Every dollar raised stays here in the Upper Cumberland.
