Two very important groups are working to expand turnout among Black and Latine voters in Mecklenburg County, critical to winning the state in November.
Roughly 1/3 of the votes needed to win statewide can be found in this one county. But under-performance among Black and Latine voters has crippled efforts to ensure a participatory electorate. There are just under 300,000 voters who are at risk of sitting out the election if they are not reached by a trusted organization within their community.
Our support of Advance Carolina and Carolina Federation will help them expand their canvassing operations to reach Black and Latine voters and help them overcome the challenges they face—disparities in wealth, housing, and criminal justice; gerrymandering and voter ID laws; language barriers; and lack of trust in government institutions.
