House Democrats need to take back the majority in 2026 - and the first step is to protect all incumbents, including Rep. Val Hoyle (OR-04).
Rep. Hoyle has been the U.S. House Representative for Oregon’s 4th congressional district since 2022. Prior to Congress, Hoyle served as Oregon’s Labor Commissioner and was also a member of the Oregon House of Representatives, representing District 14 from 2009 to 2017.
Oregon’s 4th district represents the southern half of Oregon’s coastal counties, including Coos, Curry, Douglas, Lane, and Benton counties and most of Linn and Josephine counties as well as the city of Eugene. The district is also known for its former Representative, Rep. Peter DeFazio (D), who served the seat for over four decades before he retired in 2023 and left the district open. In the 2022 election, Hoyle faced off and ultimately defeated the GOP challenger and former National Guard soldier, Alek Skarlatos, by 7.5 points (25,309 votes). In the 2024 election, Rep. Hoyle was reelected after defeating veteran and Republican candidate Monique DeSpain by about 8 percentage points. During this cycle, Hoyle raised $2.6 million, and her opponent, DeSpain raised just over $900,000. Super PACs, national party committees, politically active nonprofits, and other non-candidate groups together spent more than $3.4 million.
