House Democrats need to take back the majority in 2026 - and the first step is to protect all incumbents, including Rep. Frank Mrvan (IN-01).
Rep. Mrvan has served in the U.S. House of Representatives for Indiana’s 1st congressional district since 2021. The district was open after the retirement of incumbent Rep. Pete Visclosky (D), who served Indiana’s 1st from 1985 to 2021. Before Congress, Mrvan worked as a pharmaceutical sales representative and licensed mortgage broker, and he also served on the North Township Board for three years.
Indiana’s 1st congressional district includes all of Lake and Porter counties, and portions of La Porte County. Through redistricting, the 1st district has very few changes and is considered a lean democrat race. In the 2024 race, Rep. Mrvan faced off and ultimately defeated the GOP challenger and business owner, Randell Niemeyer, by 8 points (27,411 votes). During the 2024 cycle, Mrvan raised $3.1 million, and his opponent, Niemeyer, raised $1 million. National party committees, Super PACs, and additional non-candidate groups were not as active here this cycle and only spent around $160,000. This is Rep. Mrvan’s third time seeking reelection in this district.
