House Democrats need to take back the majority in 2026 - and the first step is to protect all incumbents, including Rep. Pat Ryan (NY-18).
Rep. Ryan has served as the U.S. House Representative for New York’s 18th congressional district since 2022. Rep. Ryan is a veteran and prior to congress was a small business owner and former County Executive of Ulster County. As the Representative of New York’s 18th Congressional district, Rep. Ryan serves the northern suburbs and exurbs of New York City and all of Orange County, and parts of Dutchess and Ulster Counties.
This district is a competitive swing district. In an August 2022 special election Rep. Pat Ryan narrowly defeated Republican County Executive Marc Molinaro by 3,837 votes and then narrowly defeated Republican Colin Schmitt by less than one point (3,424 votes) in the fall 2022. In 2024, incumbent Pat Ryan faced off against GOP challenger Alison Esposito. Ryan raised $8.1 million and his opponent Esposito raised $2.4 million. New York has the most competitve media market in the nation and that impacts outside spending in races like for NY-18. In 2024, super PACs, national party committees, and other non-candidate groups spent roughly $8.6 million in this race.
