Virginia Blue Wave 2019!

Goal thermometer

Let’s take back the majority in the Virginia General Assembly in 2019! We need to elect more Democrats to make progress on critical issues -- gun violence prevention, environmental protection, civil rights, voting rights, health care, women's rights, and more. Let's finish in 2019 what we started in 2017. Your support will help us sail on to victory!

This ActBlue link enables you to target your donation to individual nominees in 23 vulnerable and flippable Delegate districts and 6 State Senate districts. If you wish to make such individual allocations, please “Click here to allocate amounts differently or view all recipients” and then ignore the first option “All VA Blue Wave 2019 Districts,” and allocate your funds to individual nominees in accordance with your preference.

The thermometer on this page refers to Act Blue contributions through this link to Donate to Specific Nominees only – to see progress of total funds raised including contributions designated to Slate of 26 and contributions by check seewww.vabluewave.net/2019 homepage.

The VA Blue Wave 2019 Campaign has selected 20 Delegate districts and six State Senate districts that Democrats need to hold or flip in 2019:

  • Save our ships (SOS)”: the 8 delegate districts progressives won in 2017 with less than an 8% margin, or less than a 9% margin with a contested primary.
  • Overcome the heartbreaks (OTH)”: the 4 delegate districts where Republicans are in office after elections with margins of less than 1% in 2017.
  • Unfurl the sails (UTS)”: the 8 other delegate districts that Governor Northam carried in 2017 or that now trend Democratic as a result of the Bethune Hill redistricting.
  • Launch the other fleet (LOF)”: 6 state senate districts Governor Northam won or came close in 2017.

Of the 26 districts, 23 overlap with US Congressional Districts 2, 7, and 10, gained by Democrats in 2018 and key to retain in 2020. We also have 3 “Legacy Ship (LS)” Delegate districts that were included in the original design but removed from ongoing group allocations to make room for additional flippable districts, and are now supported through individually designated allocations only.

Please note that in the list of individual nominees, we have specified not only the General Assembly district of the nominees, but also the overlapping US Congressional District and the VA Blue Wave Campaign category, in case donors wish to target nominees within specific groups.

To allocate to the overall VA Blue Wave slate, please use this link: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/vafund instead of through this link, so we can allocate double the amounts to selected State Senate districts (since they are larger), and exclude automatic allocations to the 3 “Legacy Ship” Delegate nominees.

The VA Blue Wave 2019 Campaign is run by volunteers, operating under the umbrella of the Virginia Grassroots Coalition. Your entire donation, minus the credit card fee, goes to the Democratic nominees in the selected districts. Districts have been selected on the basis of transparent criteria. The campaign seeks and accepts donations from individuals only -- it does not accept contributions from corporations.

Thank you for helping flip Virginia in 2019 so that the VA General Assembly better reflects progressive values!
