The Veterans Organizing Institute (VOI) is the flagship training program of Common Defense Education Fund and the nation’s only non-partisan, cohort-based civic engagement training program for veterans.
VOI empowers veterans to use their civic voice to advocate on issues that matter to them and their communities. In cohorts of 20-30 veterans, taking place both virtually and in person, VOI teaches veterans to craft their own narrative strategy, rehearse media skills, and grassroots organizing, in order to become leaders in their communities.
Our alumni stay connected to one another, forging a bond that supports them throughout their journeys as organizers, and to the campaigns that Common Defense is committed to - namely climate justice, racial justice, and protecting our democracy.
