We joined a coalition of civic participation groups to file a lawsuit in federal district court in Georgia against the Secretary of State to block the state from restricting the distribution of vote by mail applications to voters in the state.
Our goal with this lawsuit is simple: Protect Georgians’ freedom to vote and stop restrictive anti-voter laws.
The changes to Georgia’s election code made by Senate Bill 202 prohibit anyone from aiding a voter by pre-filling a voter’s information in a vote by mail application. This type of voter assistance was exactly what we designed our VoteAmerica Absentee and Mail Voting tool to do. We had nearly 48,000 Georgians use our tool to receive their pre-filled vote-by-mail application. That’s 48,000 people who may not have voted otherwise.
Blocking groups like VoteAmerica and our co-plaintiffs from helping voters cast their ballot will be detrimental to voter participation.
