Elected sheriffs have a long history of violence against communities of color.
That’s why we are supporting a slate of Black-led groups who have a radically different vision for sheriffs and our justice system. These groups organize on the frontlines to protect communities that are violently targeted, and are mobilizing voters for 2020 elections, which will be one of many steps towards building a system in which no one is killed by sheriffs or police.
We want to defund police, jails and prisons and instead fund the resources that actually keep communities safe - housing, education, jobs and healthcare. These groups are building the political power to hold law enforcement accountable at the ballot box and every day after.

Black Male Voter Project (Georgia), on behalf of a coalition that includes New Georgia Project Action Fund and Black Voters Matter Fund, who are stopping jail construction, ending cooperation with immigration enforcement, and fighting against inhumane jail conditions.
Dream Defenders Action Fund (Florida), on behalf of a coalition that includes nine organizations, which are fighting to decarcerate the system, through base building, justice elections, and accountability campaigns. Founded by young people after the killing of Trayvon Martin, Dream Defenders is also a leader of the Movement for Black Lives and a part of their campaign to de-fund the police.
United Fort Worth (Texas), which is fiscally sponsored by the Working Families Organization, is fighting for a sheriff to transform the justice system in one of the most conservative large counties in the nation.
